The Brederode family was one of the richest and most influential families in Kennemerland. She owned a lot of land and the wealth could be seen in their luxurious castle. We now know the remains of this castle as the equally impressive Ruins of Brederode. The castle looks different than you would think.
In the NH series ‘Disappeared Castles’, heritage specialist Marius Bruijn searches for medieval castles that once dominated Kennemerland, but of which little or nothing is now left. Together with archaeologists, historians and other experts, he searches for traces in the landscape that tell us more about medieval Kennemerland. He brings the castles to life with animations, giving an impression of what they may have once looked like.
How the dunes became the enemy

And how do we deal with the high dunes these days, which are supposed to protect us against rising sea levels?
