Brazilian Marta back at almost 40 years in the “Seleção”

Marta is considered one of the best football players in history. At the age of 39, she is now taking a remarkable step.
The record player is back: Nine months after the lost Olympic final against the United States and her announcement of withdrawal, Marta is again in the squad of the Brazilian national team. National coach Arthur Elias nominated the 39 -year -old striker of Orlando Pride on Tuesday for the upcoming test games – they serve as the final preparation for the Copa América in Ecuador (July 12th to August 2).
Arthur Elias said that he had recently spoken to the six -time world footballer. Marta has agreed to continue to play for Brazil – on the condition that she will stay at the top level. The trainer also emphasized their value away from the square: their presence helps to inspire younger players.
After the Olympic Finale in Paris, Marta had explained that she no longer saw the 2027 World Cup as a personal goal. At the same time, however, she emphasized that she was still available to the national team-provided that it was considered helpful as part of the World Cup preparation. The exceptional striker’s balance sheet speaks for itself: 201 international matches and 126 goals.
