Octavio Couto Da Silva died in Lake Como.

The jujutsu champion celebrated the wedding of his friends at Lake Como’s Villa del Balbianello, which is known, among other things, as the filming location for the Star Wars movies. PDO

An experienced master of Brazilian jujutsu and a great ambassador of the sport Octavio Couto Da Silva died at the end of August in Italy. The 52-year-old man was returning from a wedding to his hotel in the early hours of the morning when, according to Italian media, he stopped to admire the scenery and fell off the ledge into Lake Como.

According to the authorities, the fall was about five meters. It is not certain whether the martial artist died from the fall or drowned.

According to other wedding guests, Couto had consumed alcohol, but remained in good health.

Those close to him describe Couto as a great developer and advocate of Brazilian jujutsu. He achieved success in his own fighting career in the 1990s, but he is also remembered as a very good coach. He coached for a long time in the United States.

According to the Daily Mail, Couto has run his own academy and traveled around the world teaching the secrets of the sport.

Fundraising campaign

Couto was a husband and father of one daughter. After the sad news, his wife shared a touching photo on social media, where her daughter is standing alone on a windy beach.

– There are not many words left to remove this pain experienced by many people. Today, Couto’s daughter spent a lot of time with her father’s spirit in the place he loved the most: by the wintry sea.

Couto’s cousin also wrote a farewell message on Facebook. The jujutsu coach is happy in a joint picture right.

– You were one of the geniuses of jujutsu, and an even better cousin and friend.

A fundraising campaign has been organized for the family GoFundMeon the site. The number of donations exceeded the goal of $28,000. On Friday, the amount was already $38,440.

The money will be used to help the family and bring Couto’s body home from Italy to Brazil.
