Who is driving for Germany to the Eurovision Song Contest? The first candidates have now presented themselves live on television. The most exotic appearance of the evening was successful. And one voice inspired everyone.
Stefan Raab’s comeback has brought the German preliminary decision to the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) a musical diversity as it has not been for many years: In the first round of the preliminary decision on Friday evening there was a lot of choice from gentle ballads to hard medieval rock. The jury around Raab with the Cologne singer Cage directly a favorite – Raab called her one “of the greatest singing talents” in Germany.
Out of twelve-launched candidates came on Friday evening in the live show “Chefsick ESC 2025-who sings for Germany?” (RTL/RTL+) just seven one round further. Raab made the choice with his jury.
Among the lucky ones were the medieval rockers from the band Feuerwanz, which were on stage in armor and presented the most exotic appearance of the evening with a cover version of the former summer hit “Dragostea Din Tei”. Raab paid tribute that the band had proven great courage to “take such a kack song”.
The pianist Jonathan Henrich, who already has family connections to the ESC, continued. According to Eurovision.de, he is the son of comedy star Olli Dittrich, who competed for Germany with the band Texas Lightning in 2006 (14th place).

Tickets for the next round in a week in a week also received the Düsseldorf singer Julika, the Munich band Cosby, the Geschwister-Duo Abor & Tynna from Vienna, the singer Benjamin Braatz from Hagen and the musician Cage from Cologne, which is particularly good from the jury Reviews received. “By far the best I have heard,” said singer Max Mutzke, who was a guest in the jury, who, in addition to Raab, also includes moderator Elton and singer Yvonne Catterfeld.
The German preliminary decision is divided into four shows this year. In the preliminary rounds (RTL), only the jury decides who will get on. In the final (ARD) on March 1st, the audience will have the choice. The ARD and RTL cooperate in the format. The collaboration occurred after Raab celebrated his television comeback last year. Raab is one of the most successful German representatives in recent ESC history. He always made it into the top ten as a singer, songwriter and producer.
In 2010 he discovered Lena Meyer-Landrut, who won the ESC final in Oslo at the time with “Satellite” and thus achieved the second victory for Germany in the 69-year ESC history. Before that, in 1982 Nicole succeeded with “a little peace”. Raab’s declared goal is to win this year too.
The ESC final will take place in Basel this year on May 17th.
