Brandenburg’s economy calls on Habeck to act

In view of the increased energy prices, the Brandenburg Chambers of Industry and Commerce (IHK) are calling on Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck to quickly relieve companies.

The effects of the pandemic are still noticeable, said Carsten Christ, President of the East Brandenburg Chamber of Industry and Commerce and Chairman of the State Working Group of Brandenburg Chambers of Industry and Commerce, according to the announcement on Tuesday.

“In addition, there are the energy costs, which have been rising dramatically for months, which are now causing the first production lines to be shut down again, short-time work being introduced, and companies even laying off employees or becoming insolvent.”

The background to the demand is a video conference of the state energy ministers on Wednesday.

Christ called for a cap on energy prices and direct aid payments to companies in need. Many companies have already contacted the chambers. The IHKs argue that the immediate detachment of the EEG surcharge from the electricity price would help small and medium-sized companies in particular.

In addition to reducing taxes and duties, a temporary suspension of CO2 pricing should be considered. Companies would have immense difficulties with cost planning, also because energy suppliers would have had to file for bankruptcy and there were no reliable offers.

The increased prices along the entire value and supply chain could only be partially passed on to customers.
