A newlyweds in Veldhoven were waiting for a big surprise when they got home after their wedding on Saturday: family and friends had ‘decorated’ their house. But there were not only streamers and balloons hanging around their house, a real caravan was showing off on the roof.
The decorated family home is located in an industrial area on De Run in Veldhoven, where about twenty companies are located. Each company has a home, usually occupied by the owner of the company. But in the usually quiet neighborhood there is one house that stands out extra on Saturday afternoon. That of Mark Welten, one of the owners of the nearby caravan company, and his – now – wife Nathalie.
A dark blue banner with ‘Mark & Nathalie’ in graceful gold letters and the date of the wedding day 10-09-2022 is not even the most striking. The house is surrounded by a dozen fluorescent red and orange warning triangles and white and orange balloons hang in several places. But the real surprise is on the roof: a caravan, on which the words ‘After meowing about getting married, don’t whine about renovating anymore’ have been scribbled with black spray paint.
Caravan in truck
“When friends of his got married in the past, they also did some things,” says father Ad Welten and co-organizer a day after the remarkable wedding surprise for his son. “Now it was his turn.”
A month ago, friends came up with the idea for the stunt. They traveled to a place near Zeist and picked up an old caravan, which they repaired in a shed on a farm, out of Mark’s sight. On the day of the wedding, the caravan was transported to the home in a truck.
All You Need is Love caravan
That the surprise has a good chance of success is already clear from the transport that Mark has arranged to get to the wedding location. Nothing less than the original All You Need is Love-caravan arrives to take him away. While the groom is being driven to the wedding venue, family and friends get to work decorating the house.
The friends call in a crane and the caravan is lifted onto the roof of the house with a cherry picker. Then the party rushes to the ceremony in a coach that had been arranged for the day guests. When the official part is over, the bridal couple will ride with their day guests in the coach to the party location, but not before a short stopover is made.
Complete surprise
“We knew that they would decorate the house, but I did not expect that they would put a caravan on the roof,” says Mark Welten on Sunday. “It was a complete surprise.”
“He thought it was fantastic,” said father Ad.
