Three men from Brabant are in custody on suspicion of involvement in the devastating explosions in The Hague that killed six people. These are two residents (23 and 29) of Roosendaal and a 33-year-old man from Oosterhout. What do we know about the deadly attack at the porch apartment on the Tarwekamp?

What explosive was used?
It is not yet clear how and what caused the explosion. The police are investigating this. Jerry cans were found and confiscated at the site of the disaster.

According to an explosion expert, it is quite possible that jerry cans were used to explode the whole thing. “You can see from the damage that it could hardly have been otherwise,” he says.

Are people still missing?
The emergency services searched the rubble until Monday afternoon. After the recovery of the sixth fatal victim, during the night from Sunday to Monday, no one was found. There are no more missing people.

How extensive is the damage?
Nineteen homes were damaged. Five of them have been completely destroyed. According to Mayor Jan van Zanen of The Hague, all homes and shops in the complex have been damaged.

Is more known about the motive?
According to the police, it appears that this is a targeted action against a bridal fashion store on the Tarwekamp.

Do we know more about the suspects?
A total of four men were arrested, all in their own hometown. These are two men aged 23 and 29 from Roosendaal, a 33-year-old resident of Oosterhout and a 33-year-old Rotterdam resident. There are strong indications that the two men from Roosendaal were already preparing for the deadly explosions in The Hague a week earlier. Most likely, the pair who are currently in custody were already arrested in Oosterhout on December 1. They were in a van in a parking lot in the middle of the night with fourteen jerry cans with an unknown content, heavy fireworks, torches, a fire extinguisher and extra clothing.

The four men emerged as suspects in an extensive police investigation. The four are under restriction, which means they are only allowed to talk to their lawyer. On Tuesday, December 24, the court’s chamber will decide whether they will remain in custody any longer.
