On the 27th matchday of the 3rd league, the duel between TSV 1860 Munich and FC Erzgebirge Aue was hotly contested. It almost had to be stopped due to thick clouds of smoke, but in the end the Lions were able to celebrate their fourth win in a row.
On the 27th matchday of the 3rd league, TSV 1860 Munich welcomed FC Erzgebirge Aue at home in the Grünwalder Stadium. In an extremely even game, the early lead of Maximilian Wolfram (7th) was canceled out a short time later by ex-Lion Marcel Bär (12th). After the break, the Auer defense gave Sigurd Haugen (50th) a scorer point and the Lions took the lead again to make it 2-1. After an intense and hard-fought final phase, the Munich team celebrated their fourth win in a row. A 17-minute interruption due to thick fog after pyrotechnics went off overshadowed the game.
It was a hotly contested duel from the start, with the guests from Aue initially coming into the game better. Being in the relegation zone, they urgently needed the three points. However, the lions from Munich were on a high after three wins in a row and had regained hope for the goal of promotion.
Wolfram scores – ex-Lion Bear equalizes
Erzgebirge Aue’s initially strong game hit the Lions to the core with their early lead. Kevin Volland shoots from around 20 meters from the right corner of the penalty area. However, goalkeeper Martin Männel’s attempt to clear the ball was not consistent enough. The rebound landed at Maximilian Wolfram, who was able to push it into the empty goal (7th).
But the Auers didn’t want to put up with the deficit for long. Five minutes later it was ex-Lion Marcel Bär, of all people, who equalized to make it 1-1 (12th). Central defender Max Reinthaler didn’t look particularly happy with his attempt to clear the ball when he shot at Bär from close range.
An even half with chances on both sides ended after a strong save from Munich keeper Thomas Dähne (44th), who cleared Bär’s shot with an elegant flying save and prevented the unfortunate deficit before the break.
Fireworks on and off the pitch
After the half-time break, the second half went into the second half without any substitutions. The visibility got worse and worse after the Lions fans continuously set off pyrotechnics, while the Munich team set off fireworks directly on the pitch. Luan Simnica wanted to clear a ball in the penalty area and shot an arc into the air, which became the perfect assist thanks to Siemen Voet’s shoulder. Sigurd Haugen only had to put his foot down to make it 2-1 (50′). The Lions could clearly thank the Auer defense for their renewed lead.
Shortly afterwards the game had to be interrupted due to thick fog. When the players had already left the pitch, massive fireworks were lit again in the stands of the Lions fans. In the meantime, you couldn’t see anything other than smoke and floodlights either in the stadium or on television. In view of the leadership we had just celebrated, this interruption was probably the worst possible time for TSV 1860 Munich.
Lions continue winning streak
The compulsory break lasted almost 17 minutes, but both teams actively came out of the locker room, even if visibility was still poor. The intensity remained high, TSV 1860 Munich tried to consistently play forward, while the guests lacked a bit of penetration.
An outstanding pass from Mika Clausen in the 89th minute almost cost Munich their victory. He lifted the ball over the defensive line, where Bär was lurking in the penalty area. However, the direct shot flew well over the goal. A corner for Aue shortly afterwards gave the guests three chances to finish, but all of them were blocked. The Lions’ defensive battle ended with a 2-1 win, their fourth three-pointer in a row. Munich’s dream of promotion lives on.
