In Sardinia the Italian boxer also fails in his second attack on the Spaniard who remains champion
The fast that began in July continues. After 5 months, Italy is unable to regain possession of a European professional boxing title for men (it has 3 among women). In the ring of Carbonia (Southern Sardinia) the Spanish champion Cristobal Lorente clearly beats Francesco Grandelli on points with a unanimous verdict, in his second failed assault, and retains the featherweight title, taken away on 11 July in Tirana (Albania) from the other Italian Mauro Forte. There was no Italian redemption. To have another chance we will have to wait for the next challenges of Vincenzo Picardi (bantamweight) and Ivan Zucco (middleweight).

In the meeting organized by Opi Since 82, the 28-year-old Lorente remained undefeated, achieving the 20th victory of his career and a draw. He imposes himself on the 30-year-old Grandelli from Turin, 18 wins, 3 defeats and 2 draws in the record. “Kekko, the Italian’s nom de guerre, shows generosity and physical endurance, but is unable to find the measure with his mobility to land his shots, conceding those from distance by his rival. First round of study, Lorente, taking advantage of his 9 centimeters of reach, touches Grandelli with his left jab, who enters his guard only once with a hook. Second in favor of the Spaniard, he enters twice with the hook and once with the meeting jab, keeping his rival away. Third along the same lines, the Italian does not find the distance and suffers the jabs. In the fourth Grandelli manages to touch twice with his right and once in an exchange, but it is always Lorente who leads with the direct left. The fifth round is the most spectacular, if Grandelli wins it, because he manages to make his rival exchange from close range and hits him several times with hooks and a nice uppercut. Balanced sixth, the champion turns the challenger in the center of the ring. Seventh and eighth clearly won by Lorente: the first by virtue of a direct match that causes his rival to be accused, the second for an official warning due to hits below the belt. Ninth round more balanced, but even now that Grandelli has managed to bring the match to close range, it is Lorente who uses the most effective short shots. Tenth in full control of the Spaniard, he hits with right hands and increases a now unbridgeable advantage, the Italian can only win by knockout, but unfortunately he doesn’t have the decisive blow to obtain it. In the eleventh Grandelli looks for the hard shot, imposes short-distance exchanges and wins the round. Even in the twelfth high pace, the Italian tries all the way, but fails to turn the tide.
