Bouwman wins Giro stage again and secures historic mountain jersey | cycling

Climbing classification is final upon arrival in Verona

Koen Bouwman has again won a stage in the Giro. In Santuario di Castelmonte he crossed the finish line first in a group of five refugees. He also seems to be the first Dutchman ever to win the mountain jersey in the Giro d’Italia. When the 28-year-old climber finishes in Verona on Sunday, the blue jersey will be his. In stage 19, the Jumbo-Visma rider was well along with an early break, after which he collected the necessary points during the climbs that the course had. Bouwman’s performance is extra special, because he is only the fourth Dutchman ever to win the mountains classification in a big round.
