POTENZA – The dark clouds above Jumbo-Visma disappeared like snow in the sun. A day after the sleep-inducing sixth Giro stage, it was mainly the Dutch who were responsible for the most entertaining spectacle in Italy to date. Koen Bouwman finished it in a phenomenal way in Potenza with the help of luxury servant Tom Dumoulin. Bauke Mollema crossed the line in second, which meant he just missed his triple – stage victories in all major rounds.
