Curious anecdote
Ex-Bayern star didn’t know Hansi Flick

Bouna Sarr’s time at FC Bayern was not necessarily a success. But a particularly strange story happened before his change.
Bouna Sarr spent a full four years at FC Bayern, but only played 33 games in the entire time. The Frenchman’s chapter with the German record champions was more of a misunderstanding.
There was a misunderstanding before Sarr even moved to Munich, as the now 34-year-old reported in an interview with the French sports newspaper “L’Equipe”. At a friendly match between his then club Olympique Marseille and FC Bayern, Sarr recalled that he met the then Bayern coach Hansi Flick on the pitch. “He held out his hand to me at halftime and said: ‘Top player,'” he said of the encounter.
“But since I thought he was a supervisor, I was a bit hesitant. Later I saw that it was the coach of FC Bayern who won the Champions League,” admitted Sarr. His first encounter as a Bayern player with the coach was pleasant: “Shortly before my first training session at FC Bayern, coach Hansi Flick hugged me and said: ‘I brought you in so that you could play. I’m really happy that you’re with us. Don’t put any pressure on yourself.'”
However, Sarr was never really able to assert himself at FC Bayern. After his contract expired, he had to leave the club in the summer of 2024 and remained without a club for a full year and a half. It was only last February that former club FC Metz signed Sarr again.
