Bottega Veneta: Everything you need to know

Bottega Veneta is a brand owned by Kering. The label is known for its modern yet timeless design language, as well as its expertise in leather goods – particularly a signature intrecciato structure of braided leather.

origins

Bottega Veneta was founded in 1966 in Vincenza, Italy by Michele Taddei and Renzo Zengiaro. Under the creative direction of Laura Braggion, the label enjoyed great success in the two decades following its founding, winning over customers in the USA, Europe and Asia with its reserved and sophisticated design aesthetic.

development

After several management restructurings and changing owners, the label was put back on course in the early 2000s by the then creative director Thomas Maier. At the time, Maier turned against the emerging Logomania trend wave and instead pursued a strict agenda that was based on restraint and minimalism. His successor Daniel Lee, who replaced Maier as creative director in 2012, continued Maier’s vision and ushered in a new era for Bottega Veneta. Lee created trend-setting looks and accessories that attracted a discreet hype. At the same time, Lee turned against usual marketing strategies – so the label withdrew from social media under his leadership in early 2021. The unavailability further contributed to the desirability of the label.

Current

In 2021, Mathieu Blazy took over the position of creative director. Blazy, who was previously Design Director at Bottega Veneta, is presenting his first collection at FW22 Fashion Week. The collection consisted of a plethora of looks centered on sartorial craftsmanship and different textures, punctuated by decadent accessories such as bags, shoes and belts. The opening look – a white tank top with baggy jeans – became the emblem of the season, praised by fashion critics and fashion lovers alike. Bottega Veneta continues to amaze the fashion industry with unconventional choices while staying true to its understatedness and mature audience.
