Despite an unexpected success against the reigning Champions League winner Paris Saint-Germain, Renato Paiva has to vacate his post. The Brazilian champion Botafogo broke up with the Portuguese coach after the end of the club World Cup.
The club from Rio de Janeiro officially confirmed the separation on Monday. Paiva has only been in office for four months and is already the second coach who has to leave Botafogo in 2025. Carlos Leiria had previously had to clear the coaching chair.
After winning the Brazilian championship and the Copa Libertadores last year, success coach Artur Jorge left the club towards Qatar in Al-Rayyan. In the current league season, Botafogo in the league is only in eighth place.
The club at the club World Cup in the USA caused a stir in the preliminary round with a 1-0 win against PSG. But in the round of 16 against Palmeiras after an extension – Botafogo lost 0: 1.
