On the weekend that Max Verstappen goes for the world title, there is a big fan in Eindhoven. Peter Bosz has been a Formula 1 enthusiast for years and hopes that his compatriot can stand on the highest step of the podium. But the PSV coach still has one wish. “It would be great to drive a car like that one day.”
Bosz has been following Formula 1 for thirty years and will of course also watch the last race of this season. That will simply be at De Herdgang on Sunday, as his team will train the same afternoon. “I find it fascinating to watch those races. Will Verstappen take the title? If I’m honest, I don’t expect the chances to be very high. Lando Norris is in the best position, but the pressure is enormous. Let me just say that Max will win this anyway, although it may be more of a hope.”
To one day drive a Formula 1 car is Bosz’s dream. And who knows, it might one day come true, since Verstappen is a supporter of the Eindhoven club. “But I do have a problem and it actually doesn’t make any sense. When I’m behind the wheel, I think I’m going to win that race. But I probably won’t even be able to move that car. I used to have that winning mentality with, for example, the Tour de France or a marathon, but that is of course nonsense.”
From the high speeds on the track to the football field. For Bosz, the most important thing is that PSV takes three points next Saturday when they visit SC Heerenveen. A fearmonger for PSV in recent years, although statistics do not mean much to Bosz. “I also heard that about Feyenoord, but we won. I see Heerenveen as a difficult away match. A team that can play football well and with qualities, but we have those too. It can therefore be a fun match.”
“It’s nice to be able to make luxurious choices.”
Ivan Perisic will not be there in Friesland yet, but will return to Eindhoven on Saturday. Even without the Croat, Bosz sees many possibilities up front. “It is never fun to disappoint players, but it is nice to be able to make luxurious choices. You also have to be lucky, such as the solution we found with Ismäel Saibari and Guus Til. That went well. The replacements against FC Volendam also did an excellent job.”
Serious injury Luuk de Jong
The news that Luuk de Jong, former captain under Bosz, suffered a cruciate ligament injury at FC Porto hit Eindhoven hard. “We are devastated, terrible news for him. He previously had a serious injury and now this. His phone is probably ringing off the hook, but I will definitely contact you.”
