The longtime Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (66) considers the departure of national player Niklas Süle (26) from FC Bayern in the summer to be manageable. “He was always a useful player. The problem is that he never really asserted himself in his position,” said Rummenigge on Monday on Sky TV and also referred to the central defender’s cruciate ligament rupture in October 2019. After that, Süle lost touch . “That’s something he should maybe think about,” said Rummenigge. “Bayern Munich are also well-manned in central defence, even without Süle.”

“Appreciation is a unit called Euro”

Süle leaves FC Bayern at the end of the season on a free transfer. The defender switched from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim to Munich in the summer of 2017 for around 20 million euros. Rummenigge commented on the possible reason for the lack of appreciation for Süle’s farewell: “Appreciation is a unit called the euro – nothing else.”

Rummenigge does not expect Borussia Dortmund’s striker Erling Haaland (21) to move to Bayern. “I don’t expect that. I think the best player is Robert Lewandowski and the best player is at Bayern Munich,” he said. There is always speculation about the Haaland personality. FC Bayern would like to extend the contract with Lewandowski (33) beyond 2023.
