Mladic is a lifelong punishment in the prison in Scheveningen for genocide and crimes against humanity in the war in Bosnia from 1992 to 1995. In a decision that the Tribunal (IRMCT) has published, it can be read that the state of health of the 83-year-old Mladic is precarious, but that he receives good care in prison. According to earlier reports, Mladic suffers from cognitive impairment and this year he has been admitted to the hospital at least twice.

The chairman of the Court, Graciela Gatti Santana, writes that “medical advice indicates that Mladic is approaching the end of his life”, but also that the former general has no acute terminal disease that justifies his release.
