The average height of the Bosnian male population is 183.9 cm compared to 177.8 of the Italian one. Here’s what the measurement of the two national teams says, department by department
The Dinaric Alps tell of a tall population, very tall in terms of centimetres. And Bosnians are also part of the Dinaric Alps: 183.9 cm is the average in and around Sarajevo for male citizens. The height challenge would thus leave us out of the World Championship if it is true that we Italians are chasing an average of 177.8 centimeters for the male part of the population. So what? On the pitch, however, the spread is reduced and is reduced, above all, if the comparison is based on the duel between our defense and their attack: Dzeko stands out with his height of 1.93 metres, Demirovic, his adventure partner in attack on the night in Cardiff, “stops” at 1.85. The blue answer is all in the six-foot-nine of the Bastoni-Mancini couple and in the six-foot-eight of Riccardo Calafiori, as well as in the fact that both Bastoni, Mancini and Calafiori know their former colleague Dzeko very well having experienced him in the locker room at Inter or Roma.

The comparison turns in favor of our rivals inside the fort of the Zenica stadium if the ball falls in midfield: Politano (1.71), Barella (1.75), Locatelli (1.85), Tonali (1.81) and Dimarco (1.75) have to give way to the big Bosnians there in the middle. The possible inclusion of Cristante (1.86) would change the perspective little because the Giallorossi, in this case, would take Locatelli’s place, giving the Azzurri coach Rino Gattuso only an extra centimeter. Yet, there is one fact that can leave us calm: “Ringhio’s” Italy knows how to score with a header having scored an impressive seven goals at altitude since the Berlin 2006 world champion sat on our national team bench. Italy, here in Coverciano, is preparing for the challenge from inside or outside: the agenda includes the transfer to Bosnia tomorrow afternoon.
