Biathlon star Johannes Thingnes Bö has missed the next success on his farewell tour on the Holmenkollen at home and has to bury his dream of sixth triumph in the overall World Cup.

One day after his victory in the sprint, the 31-year-old took second place after three penalty rounds (+15.5 seconds) behind his flawless compatriot and competitor Sturla Holm Lächreid, who is no longer suppressed in the fight for the yellow jersey.

The German biathletes played no role in awarding the podium after the mixed sprint the previous day. Philipp Nawrath (2 penalty rounds/+2: 03.2 minutes) was tenth as the best DSV athlete. Only Justus Strelow (2/+2: 35.8) in 16th place and Roman Rees (3/+2: 44.6) as 19th.

Start of Tarjej Bö further open

Bö had gone into the race with almost half a minute ahead of Lächreid, after a mistake in the first shooting, the upholstery melted to just eight seconds. After another mistake of the Norwegian, Lächreid took the lead at halftime. The decision was only made at the last shooting when Bös made his third mistake of the day.

And so Bö can no longer secure his sixth success in the overall World Cup at his last appearance in the mass start on Sunday (3:40 p.m./ARD and Eurosport), but instead prepare himself fully for his emotional departure from the biathlon stage.

It is still open whether his brother Tarjei will also say goodbye. The 36-year-old, who, like Johannes Thingnes, ends his career after the season, had had to cancel his start in the sprint and in the persecution due to fever late Thursday evening, but he hopes for a mass start.

From 3:50 p.m. it will be serious for Franziska Preuss in the fight for yellow. After her victory in the sprint, the 31-year-old goes into the persecution with a 35-point lead in the overall World Cup on Lou JeanMonnot. On Sunday (1:15 p.m./everything ARD and Eurosport) there is also a mass start for the biathletes.
