Unexpected windfall

An unexpected windfall of millions awaits Borussia Mönchengladbach. According to Fabrizio Romano, FC Sion is taking the option to buy Winsley Boteli. The “Bild” and the “Rheinische Post” confirm this report. The 19-year-old center forward was loaned out to the Swiss before the season, who will pay Borussia 3.5 million euros. The sum can continue to grow because Boteli could leave Sion again in the summer and Gladbach has a share in the resale.
Boteli moved from Servette to the young foals in 2022. For the U19 he was involved in 39 goals in 39 games, and in the U23 he had eleven scorers in 39 appearances. The Switzerland U21 national player was never on the pitch for the professionals. At FC Sion, Boteli impressed with eleven goals in 38 games and may have a part in qualifying for the European Cup. He mostly acted as a joker and was only in the starting line-up four times. If FC St. Gallen wins the cup final against second division team FC Stade Lausanne-Ouchy on Sunday, Sion will move into the Conference League qualification.
It is not yet certain that Boteli will also play for FC Sion next season. According to the “Rheinische Post”, the center forward has aroused interest from other clubs, including Genoa CFC. According to the report, the Italians are said to have submitted an offer of 7 million euros, but Sion is demanding up to 10 million euros. A resale of Boteli would bring more money into Gladbach’s coffers, who have secured a ten percent stake in a future transfer.
Sion had previously tried to reduce the transfer fee, but Gladbach’s sports director Rouven Schröder insisted on the purchase option. The fact that the Swiss are now unexpectedly using this is likely to be another indication that Boteli is moving on in the summer.
