“We are stunned”
Borussia Mönchengladbach mourns Jordi Bongard. The young player died on Thursday night at the age of 20 as a result of a serious car accident. The Bundesliga team confirmed this the following morning. The homegrown player was last active for the U23s. The central defender, who has had a professional contract since 2021, has made nine appearances (one goal) in the regional league, but has had to sit out since last May due to a meniscus injury.
“We received this terrible news this morning and we are stunned. Our deepest sympathy and our thoughts are with Jordi’s family,” said sporting director Roland Virkus. The training sessions for the professionals and the U23s as well as the press conference for the Bundesliga game against VfL Wolfsburg were canceled on Thursday.
