Borussia Mönchengladbach has made an important appointment and is setting the direction for summer preparation. “Fohlen” sports director Rouven Schröder explains the reasons.
Bundesliga soccer team Borussia Mönchengladbach is sticking with head coach Eugen Polanski despite a mixed season. “We have decided to start the new season with Eugen,” said sports director Rouven Schröder. At the same time, the 50-year-old emphasized: “There will be no ‘business as usual’.”

The decision for Polanski, who still has a contract until 2028, was made after intensive discussions within the club’s committees. “We had controversial discussions,” said the sports director. The “Fohlen-Elf” ended the previous season in twelfth place in the Bundesliga and only managed to stay in the league on the third-to-last matchday.
“The basic trust is there”
“It certainly wasn’t an ideal season,” admitted Schröder. The analysis was an “open and clear collaboration”. “But the basic trust is there to do better,” said Schröder, who avoided making a public commitment to the coach after the last match day.
Polanski, who took over his first coaching position in the Bundesliga from Gerardo Seoane on September 15th, will remain head coach, but there will be changes in the coaching bench. “We will build a new coaching team around Eugen, get new impressions from outside and more content,” emphasized Schröder. He did not mention any names or how many positions would be filled.
The sporting route is clear: The squad will still change and there will also be departures, but: “We want to play a certain type of football so that we can all go home happy more often. We will have the squad to be more offensive,” said the sports director.
