Nathalie Thielen, the woman who rightly or wrongly demolished Marco Borsato, stepped out of anonymity this morning with a major interview in the AD. John van den Heuvel? She consciously avoids them…
A striking move: Nathalie Thielen, the former chairman of Marco Borsato’s fan club and the mother of the girl who reported him for indecent assault, gave a major interview this morning to the A.D. It doesn’t contain much that is revealing; it’s all a bit of he-says-she-says. But there is clearly a strategy behind it.
Media strategy
It is no secret that Nathalie maintains close contact with John van den Heuvel, but the crime journalist from De Telegraaf has suffered serious reputational damage as a result of this case. He is expected to practice independent and neutral journalism, but from day one, for unknown reasons, he has been deeply involved in the Thielen camp.
The fact that Nathalie now chooses AD for her first major interview is clearly a PR strategy, says Story journalist Nick Dijkman on X. “An interview with the AD is not part of the media strategy suggested by Borsato in combination with Telegraaf reporter John van den Heuvel, so this is – a week before the ruling – a counter-move from Plasman?”
Sexual family
Nathalie admits in the newspaper that Marco’s image of her as a very sexual person is correct. “I really enjoy sex, and so does my husband. I don’t turn my heart into a murder pit. For many people, sex is still a bit taboo. So if there is someone who is comfortable talking about it, that is sometimes a relief for people.”
Also for Marco, she says. “The fact that we think and talk so freely about sex here is also a reason why Marco liked to come. He came here to ‘refuel with love’, as he called it. He often came to escape when things were uncomfortable or too busy at home. (…) They had two gardeners, a housekeeper and a nanny. There was always a buzz there.”
A service
Nathalie saw her having sex with Marco as a kind of service. “I wasn’t cheating, my husband was okay with me doing Borsato a favor. It wasn’t a relationship.”
She continues: “I don’t think he was even really attracted to me, I was much fatter then, he looks very slim. But he called his marriage cold in that area and I could prevent him from cheating, he said. I can almost laugh about it now.”
Naked wallpapering
Nathalie also responds to some specific issues that would prove the excessive sexualization of her family, such as the nude wallpapering. “My daughter is just wearing a top there. Only, you can’t see it. And I took off my sweater, because it was scorching hot that day.”
And that wink on the stairs that her daughter was naked in her room? “To warn him. And he also knocked politely on the door. She replied that she had no clothes on, under the assumption that he would not come in. That he would tell her to put something on. But he did come in.”
Flashing
Flashing the breasts in front of the window when Marco drove away did happen, Nathalie confirms. And the audio recordings of her daughter having sex? “What I remember is that I once sent a voice message saying that I was walking outside because my daughter was having sex.”
And what about the ‘media plan’ that Nathalie had in collaboration with John and De Telegraaf? “I did mention the word media plan to my former girlfriends, but that had everything to do with the fact that I just didn’t know what to do if the abuse I had discovered were to leak out.”
Manipulative
How to judge NoStyle about this? “It is a manipulative story about how she thinks very freely about sex because it is ‘really fun’, how Marco casually got the house key to ‘fill up with love’, and also about forcing her daughter on Borsato all kinds of completely crazy forms of denial and trivialization.”
The opinion site finds the excuse for sending an audio clip of her daughter having sex unbelievable. “Who actually DOES that? We’ll call him: they’re both crazy. Marco Borsato is a scumbag, but that mother doesn’t follow suit at all.”
