Borràs intervenes again in Parliament for Sant Jordi, despite his sentence

After nine months of suspension, and away from parliamentary public life –despite attending plenary sessions from the rostrum-, Laura Borras has intervened again this Friday in the chamber of the parliament. But it has not been for a political reason, but in the framework of the celebration of the Day of Sant Jordi of the Catalan Chamber. Borràs, who has attended the event as a “guest”, has read a poem by Rosa Fabregat that says “Today I am not afraid, today I am air, fire and water”.

This year’s edition was also attended by the first vice president with the functions of president, Alba Vergesthe ‘councillor’ of Culture, Natalia Garriga and the Minister of Research and Universities, joaquim nadal, among other deputies and representatives of civil society. Likewise, she has also participated in the celebration Izaskun Arretxe, the current president of the Institute of Catalan Letters (ILC).

This momentary return of Borràs occurs in the middle of the waiting period for the JEC to order the withdrawal from his seat. At the end of next week, the term that the electoral referee opened for the Parliament to rule on the situation of the suspended president ends, and it is assumed that a few days later she will proceed to remove her seat. This will open a new political war on the presidency of the Chamber, although it is not expected to be resolved until after the municipal elections.

This year’s reading has been dedicated to the writer and poet Josep Vallverdú, who this year celebrates his centenary and who has also witnessed the event. Vergés has addressed the chamber, stating that it is “a joy and an exceptional fact that an author lives the acts for his centenary with this vitality.”

The edition has also been dedicated to the poet Francesc Vicent García, to the poet Zoraida Burgos and to the writer Rosa Fabregat, from whom different deputies and members of civil society have read fragments of works. The act also featured musical performances by two students from the Fundació Conservatori del Liceu.
