There seems to be a shot in the neighborhood renovation in Borger-Odoorn. Six residential areas will have to be renovated in the coming years, as it became clear during the council meeting last night. Total costs: 2.7 million euros.

It concerns the neighborhoods: Noordes, Hofakkers, Sassenbergen and value in Borger and the part and the Baander in Klijndijk. The Tauw engineering firm has made an analysis of the six neighborhoods, writes RTV1.

This looked at flooding, state of the street scene, quality of sewerage, landscaping and social safety. Conclusion: regular maintenance falls short; A thorough neighborhood renovation is necessary.

Leefbaar Borger-Odoorn had his reservations about how the selection for these residential areas went two weeks ago during the council committee. “The answer that the selection is based on the present knowledge within the department feels like Nattevingerwerk,” said Ramon Kamps councilor.

The other parties emphasized to have faith in the civil service organization. “We do not distrust the officials, but we think it is important that every neighborhood is assessed by the same yardstick,” said VVD councilor Arne Joling.

Alderman Jeroen Hartsuiker (VVD) indicates that the department also makes this assessment every year for regular maintenance. “Then you don’t ask about the criteria on which they do the frames. These people are our ears and eyes in the area. They know what they are talking about,” Hartsuiker Kamps van Repliek served. “We can no longer solve it with regular maintenance in these neighborhoods.”

The CDA is behind the prioritization, but does not point out the urgency in implementation and the financial aspect. “How are we going to cover this financially structurally? It is not possible that we say to the inhabitants: here we are building your new neighborhood, but for the time being we will only drink coffee with you,” said Margreet Wegman party leader.

250,000 euros has since been reserved, but this is not nearly enough for the renovation. “Additional financing is required. We look at, among other things, subsidies and maintenance budgets,” said Hartsuiker. The CDA wants to come up with a proposal for financial coverage next week.

Hartsuiker does not think that the neighborhood renovation can start in 2026. He does see opportunities to start the participation process. The residents can actively think about their neighborhood through information evenings. Their input is processed in the final design plans.

The renovation is done in phases. That means a maximum of two neighborhoods at the same time.
