Boekhandel! PET in Hoogeveen has to repay 45,000 euros in rent arrears, otherwise deportation threatens. The judge in Assen recently determined that.

Property owner Mohamed Elhalawany went to court because he should still get a substantial amount of rent from the bookstore in the Hoofdstraat. In his own words, he received no money from November last year until March this year.

Until he decided to take legal action. Neat rent has been paid again since April, but a hefty backlog has been built up, he states. The judge agrees with it and the right to evacuate if the backlog is not reimbursed within a month.

Elhalawany also states that parts in his building have been used by the bookstore, which should not be used. He therefore demanded extra compensation of 100,000 euros, but the judge did not agree with that.

The property owner says that getting the rent since 2023 is already rough. Since the end of last year, according to him, no money came in at all. According to Elhalawany, the amount is based on the annual turnover of the company.

He does not know what figures that are, because he is not fully sent to the annual accounts. The judge says that the bookstore will have a month to send it. This is followed by a fine per day of 500 euros.

! PET, on the other hand, says that the property owner had provided the bookstore a loan. The money was first settled every month and not with the overdue rent.

According to Elhalawany, new rental agreements were made last year and that loan fell, but the bookstore denies that. The judge agrees with the property owner and states that new agreements have been made.

If the rent is not reimbursed within thirty days, then! PET must leave the building within two months of the decision, the judge states. He made a statement on Monday, June 15.

The bookstore does not want to respond yet, says the case lawyer. “The verdict is now there and we will consider that in the coming days,” said lawyer Han Venema.

Elhawany thinks it is especially important that the employees of the bookstore continue to work. With a possible departure, nobody is shooting up, he lets a response know.
