But behind the festivities there is also another story. In her book, Snick elaborates on the link between the domain and Cyriel Verschaeve, the controversial priest-poet who found shelter there after the Second World War. “The Lootens family, the owners at the time, invested enormously in him. They even set up a publishing house for him. Without them, no one would have talked about Verschaeve anymore,” says Snick.
