‘Bonus point’ for FC Volendam at Ajax: “With a bit of luck, even three points”

FC Volendam managed to stunt in the Johan Cruijff Arena with a tactical master plan. The team of coach Wim Jonk even took the lead, but had to allow the equalizer ten minutes before the end. “This is a bonus”, says Jonk afterwards.

FC Volendam came up against Ajax without attackers. The game image was therefore mainly that the visitors put up a wall and that Ajax had to play football through it. The Volendam defense held up nicely. “You have to make choices in life,” says Jonk. “We were able to train well on it. You have to use realism sometimes.”

Defender Derry John Murkin was exhausted after the game and stumbled because of the many meters he made. “If you keep a clean sheet against Ajax for so long, you have played a good match as a team,” says the wing defender. After Damon Mirani’s goal, Murkin knew his team had to be on guard. “A huge discharge, but we had to be sharp.”
