Bono and The Edge by U2 have revealed in a new interview during their background discussions with New Zealand radio DJ and television presenter Zane Lowe that there will soon be new music from U2: The band is said to have “over a hundred new songs” in the pipeline, as Bono jokingly reveals.
“At least 10 new tracks”: Bono and The Edge share news
The conversation has with Lowe to “The Sphere” concerts took place. In it, Lowe accompanies the group behind the scenes of their tour. The videos and interviews are currently running as a preview on Apple Music under the name “U2: The Zane Lowe Interview (2023)”. A new 31-minute video called “Inside U2’s Sphere Residency in Las Vegas” has been available on YouTube for a few hours.
In it, U2 and Lowe talk about the “Sphere” building, visit it and rave about the “innovative technical achievements” and sound technology. Among other things, U2 also talk about the creative vision behind the stage design, which ushered in a new era of music for the band.
Asked by Lowe in the video documentary what’s next for U2, U2 guitarist David Evans (better known as “The Edge”) says: “Well, I think: new music, new tunes. There’s a lot we’ve already finished and some that still needs a bit of dusting off but will be done soon. I’m telling you, we have some great new songs. Really exciting.”
Bono adds: “Edge has about 100 in his pocket. I have about 20…but [Bassist] Adam [Clayton] has something to contribute too.” The bandleader also explains that drummer Larry Mullen Jr. – who is currently missing from the Vegas concerts due to various injuries – “will sit there, go through the bags of material and say, ‘Yes – no – that’s it Fuck. That sucks. That sucks. Is there anything here that isn’t shit?’” But: U2 would definitely find “10” tracks that were good.
