At the European top 16 table tennis tournament on Sunday, there will be a repeat of the World Championship semi-finals between record European champion Timo Boll and Sweden’s Truls Möregardh.

In Montreux on Lake Geneva, Boll (Borussia Düsseldorf) first defeated the Swiss Barish Moullet in 4:0 sets and in the evening also defeated Wang Yang from Slovakia 4:1.

As a result, he reached the semifinals just like defending champion Patrick Franziska (1. FC Saarbrücken), who beat Croatian Tomislav Pucar (4:0) in the round of 16 and Greek Panagiotis Gionis (4:1) in the quarterfinals.

While Franziska has to play against his Saarbrücken teammate Darko Jorgic from Slovenia on Sunday, the 40-year-old Boll can take revenge from 12:10 p.m. on Möregardh, who is only half his age, for the painful defeat in Houston at the end of November.

Boll lost the world championship semifinals in 3:4 sets because he was handicapped by an abdominal muscle injury.
