José Pedro Rojas was killed on the afternoon of Sunday 26 April. The police investigate his proximity to the Marset drug trafficker organization
Death and fear became protagonists at the Nueva Santa Cruz Rally, in Bolivia. On the afternoon of Sunday 26 April, José Pedro Rojas lost his life, riddled with bullets while, between one test and another, he was resting in his car in parc fermé. The competition was immediately suspended, while the killer is still on the run. It is hypothesized that there was a settling of scores behind the murder. According to the police, in fact, the victim had links to the organization of the Uruguayan drug trafficker Sebastian Marset, arrested a few weeks ago.
THE STORY
—
According to reconstructions, the hitman approached Rojas with his face covered. So he would have fired between 15 and 19 shots. Eight of these would prove fatal for José Pedro, who died at the age of 29. Transport to hospital was not enough to save his life. Rojas was preparing for the fourth special stage of the Nueva Santa Cruz Sprint Rally, in the municipality of Warnes. The co-pilot, Arnoldo Roca Eguez, who was on board the vehicle, a Can-Am X3 registered with the number 11 in the SxS category, was also involved in the attack. From the news that has emerged, he would have been hospitalized in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, but his life does not appear to be in danger. The attacker then fled in a pick-up truck.
VICTIM
—
José Pedro Rojas was wanted for kidnapping and shooting. In fact he was participating in the race by registering under the false name of “Pedro Pablo”. Also given his closeness to the Marset organisation, according to police sources quoted by the Bolivian channel DTV, the man was in danger. This picture, for now, leads to support the thesis according to which the murder, which occurred last weekend, would be a sort of showdown.
