Lois Boisson won the WTA tennis tournament at the Hamburg Rothenbaum. The French hit last year’s winner Anna Bondar from Hungary in the final in the final in two sets.

With 7: 5, 6: 3, Boisson prevailed on the Center Court on the Rothenbaum and celebrated the first WTA tournament victory of her career. So far, the 22-year-old is one of the surprise players of the year. At the French Open, she had sensationally moved into the semi-finals as the first wildcard starter of the past 40 years, but then failed due to the later winner Coco Gauff.

Boisson says “Thank you”

Boisson, who had slipped into the main field of Hamburg late thanks to a wildcard, can look forward to almost 32,000 euros in prize money and a cruise from the tournament sponsor. The French woman shone all over her face on the Center Court and ended with a “thank you” in German, which brought her a lot of symptoms.

Meanwhile, the inferior bondar fought with the tears of disappointment, but showed itself as a fair loser: “Lois, you played incredibly. Congratulations!”

Eva Lys is disappointed

At the women’s tournament on the Rothenbaum, the spark does not quite jump over. The organizers give everything – and just have a lot of bad luck.

Boisson put a colossal false start into the final, and was quickly falling behind with 0: 4 after two service losses. Then number 63 of the world rankings fought into the game and converted her first set ball. In the second round, the French woman scored the decisive break at 5: 3. Bondar decided the game with a backhand error.

Grote wants Olympic tennis on the Rothenbaum

Hamburg’s interior and sports senator Andy Grote (SPD) was also on site, congratulated the two finalists and then tensioned the somewhat further Olympic sheet. “It is important to us to have both tournaments, women and men. “We want this to take place here on this Center Court,” said the sports senator and received applause.

“This tournament, together with the men’s ATP tournament, shows that Hamburg is an integral part of the international tennis card.”

Seven Germans out of the quarter -finals

Of the seven German players in the main field, it had not made it to the quarter -finals. Wimbledon quarterfinalist Laura Siegemund and the sick local hero Eva Lys had canceled her starts in the Hanseatic city at short notice.

During the tournament week, a total of a little more than 18,000 spectators came to the traditional facility in the Hanseatic city. Large areas of the 10,000 viewer Center Courts were left behind with tarpaulins.

Caroline Werner

Caroline Werner lost to the top seed Russian Jekaterina Alexandrowa. No more German player is there.

Tamara Corpatsch

With Tatjana Maria, Jule Niemeier, Nastasja Schunk and local hero Tamara Korpatsch, four German women said goodbye at the WTA tournament in Hamburg on Wednesday.
