The young woman had been partying with her friends at the nightclub ‘Le One’ on the occasion of her 21st birthday, which she should have celebrated on February 1. Héléna left the club around 5:20 am on Sunday morning and was supposed to walk to her grandparents’ house. According to the radio station France Info, a friend planned to accompany Héléna, but ultimately did not because she wanted to stay longer in the disco. At around 6:42 a.m., the student was still being filmed by a security camera. Since then every trace has been missing.

The only suspect in the case was a 36-year-old man, Sylvain L., from Brest. He died last Thursday after a double suicide attempt. Relatives of the man had gone to the police after he confided in them that he had “done something stupid, that his life was over” and that “it was an accident”. According to the relatives, there was a connection between this “stupidity” and Héléna’s disappearance. The suspect was taken to hospital after his first suicide attempt, but tried to take his own life a second time. He spent several days in intensive care, but eventually died.

On February 2, the police recovered Sylvain L.’s vehicle. The car was completely burnt out in a neighborhood close to his home. According to Miansoni, there is “no evidence that he and Héléna knew each other”. “We do know that Héléna’s body was burned after her death,” it sounds.
