3rd and 23rd titles

In Norway, FK Bodø/Glimt became champions for the third time. After a 1-0 (1-0) draw against Aalesund on Sunday evening, this year’s Conference League participant can no longer be displaced from the top of the Eliteserien table after the 28th of 30 match days. Guest defender Nikolai Hopland made the decision with an own goal (37th). It is the third championship in four years for the club from Bodö in northern Norway. Only last year he had to give way to Erling Haaland’s former club Molde FK. Kjetil Knutsen was the coach of all three title teams.

Heart-stopping final in Sweden: Malmö FF football champions again

There was also a very close decision on the last matchday in the neighboring country: record champions Malmö FF secured the Swedish championship for the 23rd time in a heart-stopping final. In the direct duel for the title, the team from the third largest city in the country won 1-0 (0-0) against the previous leaders IF Elfsborg in front of a good 21,000 fans in their home stadium. National player Isaac Kiese Thelin scored the only goal with a controversial penalty. It was the 16th goal of the season for the top scorer.

This means that head coach Henrik Rydström’s team intercepted the guests on the last matchday: both teams have 64 points – with the slightly better goal difference for Malmö. The decisive game was overshadowed by chaotic scenes. The start of the second half was delayed by around an hour. First, a safety net in front of the guest block caught fire, presumably due to pyrotechnics. The home fans then lit numerous Bengal fires. This triggered the fire alarm and the fire department arrived.

Elfsborg could have won the championship in the Swedish upper house Allsvenskan on the penultimate matchday. However, the team from Borås near Gothenburg in southwest Sweden couldn’t get past a 2-2 draw against relegated Degerfors IF a week ago. Last year, BK Häcken won the Allsvenskan – this season the club finished third.
