Boat Ameland sails adjusted timetable for the rest of the year

The ferry between the Frisian Holwert and Ameland is allowed by State Secretary Vivianne Heijnen (Infrastructure and Water Management) to sail for the rest of the year according to the temporary timetable that carrier Wagenborg Passagiersdiensten introduced in August. Heijnen informed the House of Representatives of this on Tuesday, the shipping company reports.

The adjusted timetable was necessary because crossing ferries could no longer pass each other properly. The channel has become too narrow due to silting. The ships therefore now wait for each other in special passing sections. Depending on the water level, a ship will be stationary there when passing. If there is enough water in the fairway, both ships will sail on. Due to the adjustment, the crossing takes up to five quarters of an hour, instead of an hour.
