BMW stolen with stolen signal from car key | 1Limburg

An expensive BMW was stolen in Horst in February because a thief managed to pick up the wireless signal of the car key with an antenna. He unlocked and then started the car and drove off.

The police reported this on Tuesday evening in Opsporing Verzocht, which published images of the perpetrator because he is still missing.

The thief was able to steal the car because its keys emit a so-called ‘keyless entry’ signal. That can be intercepted by an antenna. Thieves go on the road with this and also have equipment that can unlock and start cars with the stolen signal.

So someone can steal a car whose keys are stored a few meters away in the house. The police therefore advises to keep keys at least six meters away from the facade. Preferably in a metal can, which makes the signal even more difficult to pick up.
