Blinken announced support for Ukraine and the Normandy format

To resolve the situation around Ukraine, both Washington and Berlin prefer the path of diplomacy and de-escalation, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said at a press conference in the State Department following a meeting with German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock on January 5.

“Our countries are unshakable in our support for the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine,” Blinken said.

He indicated his intention to test “Russia’s readiness to go this way” next week, when negotiations are scheduled within the framework of a dialogue on strategic stability between the US and Russia, as well as at meetings of the Russia-NATO Council and the OSCE.

According to the secretary of state, at these meetings, the parties will raise some issues of concern. “If we want to make progress, it will be very difficult to do in the face of the ongoing escalation on the part of the Russian Federation, its buildup of forces, its rhetoric,” Blinken said.

He also said that the United States strongly supports the work of Germany and France in the Normandy format and will assist it in the coming months. TASS

Earlier, US White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said what questions will the United States raise in the upcoming negotiations with Russia. These are, in particular, issues of invasion of neighboring countries, the use of chemical weapons outside the country. Psaki promised that the negotiations will be pragmatic and result-oriented, the TV channel reports. “Russia 24”
