In an “Apple” interview with Zane Lowe, the trio shows a very personal side and, among other things, talks about the background story of the song: According to Travis Parker, “One More Time” is about the question of why it was such a catastrophe Mark Hoppus’ cancer supposedly needed for blink-182 to get back together.

In June 2021, the bassist and singer Mark Hoppus made his cancer public. The diagnosis at the time was “stage four diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.” It is the same type of cancer that his mother suffered from in the past. This was able to successfully defeat the disease. Hoppus himself described his diagnosis at this point with the words: “My blood is trying to kill me.” In fact, the subsequent chemotherapy would have destroyed his vocal cords.

Tom DeLonge wanted to do something about the disease and now explains in the “Apple” interview: “It wasn’t about fame or money or how big Blink is or anything, it was like ‘You’re going to get through this shit and we’re going to dominate.'” And So it happened that DeLonge didn’t give up his music career after all, after he was actually no longer part of the band in 2015 and was replaced by Matt Skiba from Alkaline Trio. He returned to blink-182 seven years later.
