The sports center on the coast has been struggling with financial losses for years. At the end of September, the Flemish government decided not to release additional resources for the operation of the site. As a result, a closure threatened to become unavoidable, unless the city itself would join in the story.
Blankenberge previously announced that it wanted to negotiate constructively with Flanders and at the same time started looking for possible co-operators to keep the sports center profitable and safeguard its sporting activities.
