Björn Borg writes about a serious health blow in his book – against which he is still fighting.

Tennis icon Björn Borg has made cancer public. He was diagnosed with an “extremely aggressive” prostate cancer, writes the 69 -year -old Schwede in his book “Heartbeats” that will soon be published. He told the AP news agency that it was better for him since the operation last year. His last tests in August were inconspicuous.

“I have nothing at the moment. But I have to be examined every six months. The whole process is not a pleasant thing,” said the former world-class player. He had “many, many years” examined for prostate cancer. “The thing is that you don’t feel anything – you feel good, and then it just happened.” In September 2023, doctors discovered irregularities with him during an examination.

According to AP information in Borg’s book, the cancer says: “Now I have a new opponent: the cancer-one that I can not control. But I will defeat it. I don’t give up. I fight as if every day there is a Wimbledon final. And they usually run pretty well, right?”

Borg won a total of eleven Grand Slam individual titles, five in series in Wimbledon (1976 to 1980), six at the French Open. In total, the client specialist was in place in the world rankings for 109 weeks. His rivalry with American John Mcenroe, who faced each other in numerous finals, went into history.

At the beginning of 1983, the tennis professional, named “Eis” Borg at the age of 26, surprisingly ended his active career at the age of 26. In 1991 he began a comeback: Borg still played his match with an old wooden bat, but was largely unsuccessful against the younger and modernly equipped competition. In 1993 he finally ended at the age of 37. Since then he has been on the senior tour matches.

The surprisingly early resignation is one of several topics about which Borg writes in his book. In addition, it should also be about his drug use and his relationships with women, his parents and his children. Borg wrote his memoirs together with his wife Patricia Borg.
