Björk shares music video for ‘victimhood’ – check out the animated work here

Björk presents animation clip and shares thoughts about herself as an optimist and women in victim roles.

Björk has released a music video for the song “victimhood”. It’s the sixth track from their current album, FOSSORA, to receive an accompanying video. You can watch the animation below.

Directed by Gabríela Fri∂riksdóttir and Pierre-Alain Giraud. Fri∂riksdóttir said via press release: “I was completely mesmerized by the song. I couldn’t forget him, I even dreamed about it a couple of times. From the first time I heard it, there was a deep connection. The song is about things I think about a lot, about self-pity and how ridiculous you’ve been acting, or how funny you were in a situation, or in some weird place where you weren’t doing well and then you found yourself see. Instead of constantly pointing at someone else, it’s nice to find yourself breaking the mask of a certain feeling at a certain time. I believe that in the lyrics themselves there is poetry about a human situation that is very appealing to many. I believe everyone can understand it.”

Björk also shared her views on “victimhood”: “I have this delusional idea of myself that I’m an optimist. But you have to be honest. It’s harder for an optimist to recognize self-pity. Sometimes it becomes women’s role to take the burden of catharsis and emotional work on their shoulders in difficult situations and when there are dark shadows or forces in a situation they turn it into some kind of good energy for other family members. We’ll take care of it so you don’t have to. It’s a weird kind of victimhood, because you choose to do it, no one asked you to. Maybe that’s where humor comes into play. It’s very interesting.”
