Bizarre incident: strangers stop 25 trains in Poland with radio signals | Abroad

In Poland, 25 passenger trains suddenly came to a standstill on Tuesday. Strangers managed to slow down the aircraft with radio signals, a spokesman for the Polish railway company PKP said. The strange incident occurred in four regions around 1 p.m.

There would have been no danger to passengers and the trains could continue their journey with a slight delay, the spokesperson said.

There have been several such attacks on the Polish rail network in recent days. The road to the east of Europe is the main supply route for military aid from the West to Ukraine. It is not clear whether the attacks are politically motivated.

On Sunday, police arrested two men in the eastern city of Bialystok. Investigators got their hands on radio equipment. The suspects, including a police officer, are said to have stopped five passenger trains and a freight train on Sunday morning. One of the stops is said to have featured the Russian national anthem and another a speech by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to cybersecurity expert Lukasz Olejnik, it is relatively easy to stop the Polish trains as they still use radio technology without encryption. The security flaw within the Polish railway is known, as a result of which several attacks have taken place in recent years.
