Helmarit lost the World Cup qualifying match against Portugal.

Marko Saloranta was not satisfied. PDO

The Finnish women’s national football team Helmarit lost their first World Cup qualifying match to Portugal with 2–0 goals.

The situation was even for a long time, until Lucia Catarina Sousa Alves scored Portugal’s opening goal in extra time. Shortly after the first goal Carolina Santiago scored another goal.

Evelina Summanen was still able to try to narrow it down in the penalty kick at the end, but Ines Teixeira Pereira repelled.

The head coach of the helmets Marko Saloranta was disappointed with the result.

– Of course, I am disappointed with the result. There were many things in the game that we are not satisfied with, Saloranta commented in an interview with Yle immediately after the match.

– The fact is that there was a tough team against them. A deserved win for them.

The head coach got emotional after Portugal’s second goal, as Portugal’s officials and substitutes celebrated the goal. The television pictures did not show that they had run onto the field, but Saloranta saw it differently.

– I think it is irresponsible that all the staff, substitutes and everyone are on the field. It’s not ok, and then not much extra time is given for it. Of course, that was the end of the game, even though we got a point behind, Saloranta says.

Finland will play its next qualifying match on April 14 against Slovakia.
