Bird flu has broken out at an organic laying hen farm in Dalen. This is reported by the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA). To prevent the virus from spreading, the approximately 23,000 chickens are being culled by the NVWA.

There is one other poultry farm in a zone of three kilometers around the company on Veenhuizerweg, which is screened by the NVWA.

In addition, a transport ban immediately applies in a zone of ten kilometers around the company. As a result, no poultry, hatching eggs and/or eggs for consumption may be transported within a ten-kilometre zone. There is also a ban on the disposal of bird manure and used litter.

It is the second time this autumn that bird flu has been diagnosed at a Drenthe poultry farm. In October, bird flu broke out at a chicken farm in Gasselternijveenschemond. In Coevorden, bird flu was recently diagnosed in geese that stay in the city.

Bird flu has also broken out at companies in other provinces in recent weeks. There is currently a national cage requirement for poultry farms.
