New participant record at the 15th student conference

From March 4th to 6th, 2026 the Student conference instead of. This year the students were in the master’s degree programs Medical Engineering, Medical informatics, Biomedical Engineeringhearing acoustics and audiological technology, biophysics, Robotics and Autonomous Systems, Medical Microtechnology as well as Psychology – Cognitive Systems included. 132 students of the University of Lübeck and the Lübeck University of Technology presented the results of their practical scientific projects to their fellow students and a scientific jury – a new record number of participants. At the industrial exhibition, the accompanying Recruiticon, the students took the opportunity to easily get in touch with future employers.

Conference level: peer reviewing and open access

Over the last few years, the student conference has developed into a scientific conference whose content can keep up with the annual conferences of professional societies. The students had to apply with a so-called abstract, a kind of short version of their laboratory workexplains Prof. Thorsten M. Buzug, head of the Medical Engineering and Hearing Acoustics and Audiological Technology courses, the procedure. They then evaluated each other’s four-page English-language specialist articles and made suggestions for improvement, which were taken into account by the authors. This so-called Peer reviewing is an essential part of publications in specialist publishers, where you also have to face criticism and evaluation by specialist colleagues. The organizers are particularly proud of the opportunity for students to publish their contributions open access in the Student Conference Proceedings after the student conference.

Impressive level: The best minds at the conference

Prof. Heinz Handels, head of the Medical Informatics degree program, Prof. Stefan Müller, head of the Biomedical Engineering and Medical Microtechnology degree programs, Prof. Philipp Rostalski, head of the Robotics and Autonomous Systems degree program, Prof. Christian Hübner, head of the Biophysics degree program and Prof. Nico Bunzeck, head of the Psychology – Cognitive Systems degree program, were the scientific directors of the 2026 student conference together with Prof. Thorsten M. Buzug. They showed was impressed by the high level of this entirely English-language conference. Together they honored the best posters and presentations. The award winners are: Serafina Stube (Psychology), Ngoc Nguyen (Biomedical Engineering), Alexander Kossivas-Rapp (Robotics and Autonomous Systems), Lina Ebert (Psychology), Anna-Lina Schmahl (Medical Engineering), Luise Morgner (Medical Engineering), Tim Ortmann (Robotics and Autonomous Systems), and Leonard Siegel (Robotics and Autonomous Systems).
