Billie Eilish & Finneas: This is what their first boy band song for Pixar’s “Turning Red” sounds like

Sibling duo Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell are collaborating on songs for the new Pixar film, Turning Red, in a whole new direction: The boy band song Nobody Like U is out on February 25th to listen to youtube.

But Finneas is not only involved in the songwriting, he even sings along himself and thus lends his voice to one of five members of the fictional band 4*Town. Joining him are Jordan Fisher, Grayson Villanueva, Josh Levi and Topher Ngo. Two more titles, also penned by Billie Eilish and Finneas, are to be added to the boy band’s repertoire.

The animated film, which is due to be released on Disney+ on March 11, is about 13-year-old Mei Lee. One morning, she is confronted with a secret from her Toronto-based Chinese family: Like her ancestors, she transforms into a red panda when strong emotions break out.

Producer wanted Eilish and O’Connell to be there from the start

The film shows how Mei learns to accept herself and deal with the inner and outer conflicts of a teenager. The band 4*Town plays a special role, which, as director Domee Shi tells Variety, represents the character Mei’s first step into the world of boys, and thus creates potential for conflict with her mother.

Producer Lindsey Collins wanted Eilish and O’Connell to take over the songwriting in the background even before the two received several Grammys. “We realized that they have a feel for the pulse of the times,” she says, according to Variety. The fact that the siblings are a good team was shown early on by Eilish’s albums, which they worked on together. O’Connell served as producer and co-songwriter. Most recently, they won the Golden Globes award for Best Movie Song for their James Bond theme song “No Time To Die”.
