In the night from Sunday to Monday (May 15) this year’s “Billboard Music Awards” were presented in Las Vages. Olivia Rodrigo emerged as the big winner from the award ceremony with seven awards. However, the actress and singer was not present when she was successful in categories such as “Top New Artist” and “Top Female Artist”. In May last year, the only 19-year-old released her debut album SOUR – and thus became, alongside Machine Gun Kelly, the figurehead of the pop-punk revival that had been burgeoning for several months.
The failure of the favorite
Big favorite The Weeknd entered the race with 17 nominations, but ultimately had to settle for winning the fringe category, Top R&B Male Artist. Rapper Kanye West also won his six awards in rather insignificant categories like “Top Christian Artist” and “Top Gospel Artist”.
Drake can count his trophies on seven hands
His Canadian colleague Drake was successful a total of five times – including as “Top Artist” and “Top Male Artist”. With this year’s triumph, he is now the artist with the most Billboard Awards ever: he has been able to win 34 trophies in his life so far. Australian rapper The Kid Laroi and pop star Justin Bieber received five trophies for their number one hit “Stay” last August.
