The 22-year-old Alcaraz and Norrie, eight years his senior, also faced each other in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon this year. The six-time Grand Slam winner was too strong in three sets in London.
In Paris, Alcaraz was much less visible. He won the first set after a break in the fifth game, but then saw Norrie come back strongly. The Brit won the second set and he broke Alcaraz at 3-3 in the third set. Norrie had to overcome two more break points, but then took the victory.
Norrie will meet the winner of the match between cousins Valentin Vacherot and Arthur Rinderknech in the third round. The Monegasque Vacherot recently won the final of the Shanghai masters tournament at the expense of the Frenchman Rinderknech.

The number 85 in the world was surprised in two sets by Eudice Chong, from the Asian metropolis: 3-6 and 4-6. Chong recorded her first ever victory in singles at the highest level.
A week ago, Lamens also failed to reach the second round of the WTA tournament in Tokyo. The 26-year-old from South Holland lost in two sets to Anna Kalinskaya from Russia in the Japanese capital.
Tallon Greek track
Things immediately went wrong for Tallon Greekpoor in Paris. The number 25 in the world did try against Gabriel Diallo after withdrawing in Vienna, but lost to the tall Canadian in two sets: 6-3 and 6-4.

Greek track missed his quarter-final in Vienna against Alexander Zverev on Friday due to a back injury he sustained during training in the morning. He had some chances against Diallo, but the hard-serving Canadian was more consistent and in addition, Greek Spoor did not look fresh after he had only resumed training on Monday.
Greek Spoor is still registered in Metz, but could also choose to end his season and prepare for the Australian Open after a holiday. That preparation will take place in Dubai.
