Charli XCX released a statement on Thursday saying she had no knowledge of the incidentthat a party organizer she worked with had alleged ties to Russia.
Report on alleged connections
News portal United24 Media reported on Monday that model and DJ Anastasia Shevtsova, also known as Petit, hosted an afterparty for Charli XCX’s mockumentary “The Moment” in Berlin.
According to the portal, Shevtsova is the daughter of Zhanna Shevtsova, whose “Traditsiya” foundation is believed to be working with Vladimir Putin’s Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives on projects in Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine. The portal also claimed that Petit had traveled to parts of the Russian-occupied territories in the years since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
“For the avoidance of doubt, neither I nor my team were aware of any alleged connections surrounding the party in Berlin,” Charli XCX wrote in a statement posted to her Instagram Story. “I would like to take this opportunity to say that I stand against the atrocities committed by the Russian state in Ukraine and stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine.”
Statements from both sides
Petit also released a statement distancing herself from any ties to Russian repression. “My family members live in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “The current tragedy affects me personally and deeply. I would never wish harm, violence or suffering on anyone.”
“The Moment” premiered in the US in late January, two weeks before the release of “Wuthering Heights,” a film with a soundtrack by Charli XCX. ROLLING STONE reviewed the film at the Sundance Festival. “It’s hard to parody something that’s already so over-the-top, but this feels like it’s just scratching the surface of the non-stop chaos of a world tour that revolves around a hedonistic yet sensitive artist surrounded by industry sharks and slimers,” wrote critic David Fear.
