The German biathletes start the world championships in Nove Mesto without Benedikt Doll. As the German Ski Association (DSV) announced, Justus Strelow, Philipp Nawrath, Franziska Preuß and Vanessa Voigt will compete in the mixed relay on Wednesday (February 7, 2024, 5:20 p.m.).

In the final training course in Ridnaun, Doll had “a bit of a runny nose” and had only traveled to the Czech Republic on Tuesday. However, his participation is not in danger for the first men’s individual race with the sprint on Saturday (5:05 p.m./live on ARD and in the stream on sportschau.de).

The mixed relay, which is competing without Doll for the first time in three years, is fighting for the first medal at a major event since 2019; most recently, the DSV came away empty-handed four times in a row in the now traditional opening race.

Norway favored

According to the length, the women’s relay will be 4×6 kilometers, with the men starting this year. The top favorite is Norway with the two Bö brothers Tarjei and Johannes Thingnes as well as Karoline Offigstad Knotten and Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold. Last year, the German team finished sixth at the home World Cup in Oberhof.
